Star Scholars Program
Brand Identity
Artdes 349 - Visual Identity & Branding, Winter 2024
An important educational outreach initiative designed to facilitate underrepresented students’ involvement in research and help understand why research is important in a greater context.
Process
Research
My branding research began with a conversation with the client during class, where I aimed to grasp the audience and vision of Star Scholars. From this discussion, it became clear that a key objective was to de-institutionalize research, making it more accessible and less intimidating for first-generation students and those from lower economic backgrounds. This focus shaped my approach, leading me to prioritize the creation of a welcoming and supportive environment that empowers these students to engage with research confidently.
More Research!
After an extensive creative process involving sketching, conversations, research, mood boards, and keyword exploration, I selected the logomark that most effectively embodies the brand’s mission of connecting research to lower-income students. This logomark captures the essence of accessibility and connecting, reflecting the commitment to bridging the gap between valuable resources and those who can benefit the most. I also wanted to highlight the scientific focus of the organization with a nod to a DNA strand in the shape of a star.
